Your tone of voice document lives at the top of the Content Studio and in Org Admin. With one, it overrides the tone dropdown entirely and outranks Koalr’s own copywriting conventions. Without one, drafts come out competent and anonymous, and the Studio says so: Writing in a generic voice.

Three ways to set it up

  • Learn how I write: Koalr reads your site, blog and editorial pages first because that is where a voice lives, and proposes a document: how you sound, personality, who you write for, do and do not, vocabulary, formatting habits, how far you go (bluntness, swearing, humour), and real sentences lifted word for word from your pages as samples to write against. Every sample is checked against your actual pages before it is kept. The proposal is yours to read and edit before saving; nothing is saved for you.
  • Upload a document: a markdown or text file of your existing brand guidelines.
  • Paste your guidelines: drop in the text you already have and tidy it up in place.
The lifted sentences are the most valuable part. A writer imitates a voice far better from real examples than from adjectives.

What it changes

If your writing uses one-sentence paragraphs, fragments or opens on a provocation rather than a benefit, the agent matches that instead of smoothing it into marketing prose. Short, punchy sentences are good for citation: AI platforms quote short, clean passages. Nobody needs to write more professionally to get cited.

Check how it is performing

See how your tone of voice is performing runs a diagnosis of your style against what actually earns citations. It is careful about one distinction:
  • Voice is personality, and Koalr never suggests changing it.
  • Structure is where the answer sits, whether sub-questions are headed, whether specifics and named entities appear, whether an FAQ exists. That is what earns citations, it is voice-neutral, and it is the only thing Koalr proposes changing.
The check says what your style is earning you as well as what it costs, and it may conclude nothing needs changing. Any suggestion is a discrete line you accept or reject one at a time; accepted lines are added to your document under Getting found in AI answers. Nothing changes without your yes. The classic finding: a piece that opens with a story and answers in paragraph five. The fix is not to change the voice. Put the claim in the first sixty words and take the hook wherever you like.

Voice on existing drafts

If a draft was made before your document existed, or with the voice switched off, Put it back in your voice creates a separate draft rewritten to the document. The original is never overwritten.
